May 11, 2019 Garden Wedding at Ijams Nature Center | Knoxville, TN

For me, this past year has been all about surrendering control to let whatever is meant to be happen as it will, while paying attention to all the queues so that I can see how things perfectly line up. If ever there was a sign that I was meant to be a wedding photographer, it was the entirety of Anne and Bobby’s wedding! I could go on and on (and I will in their full blog post later this summer), but the best example is the serendipity of our weather.

The morning dawned chilly and absolutely down pouring for their morning group run. By the time we got to Ijams later in the day, it was still raining. And yet, just as Anne was putting her dress on, the clouds parted. We were able to do our family photos outside in the garden, just as we’d hoped, but were still planning to hold the ceremony in the tent. But regardless of the 100% chance of rain, not only did the skies clear, but the ground somehow dried out just in time for us to make the last second decision to hold the 200+ person ceremony in the beautiful green meadow in front of the flower-covered arbor just as we’d all hoped. Not only that, but the crisp, clear weather held until the very moment Anne and Bobby closed the doors of their getaway car, when the rain clouds burst once again.

Getting to go home, photograph a wedding for someone I’ve known through running for a decade, sing every verse of “Rocky Top” and capture the pure joy of two people and their families coming together to celebrate love, was everything I needed. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who came together amidst stressful circumstances to pull off an absolutely gorgeous wedding last weekend!
