Artistic & Retro Inspired Garden Wedding at SPAF || Saugerties, NY

When two artists get married, the wedding is automatically bound to be beautiful. Sarah and Brandon’s May celebration was no exception; beginning with the invitation suite hand drawn by the talented bride herself, framed by the many lines & lights of Saugerties Performing Arts Factory, and ending the evening serenaded by a live band. In the ultimate test of friendship, the couple also trusted their wedding party to, without any coordination, select their own attire in order to create an eclectic and vibrant spring color palette - a feat which they pulled off so perfectly that the bridesmaids’ dress colors inadvertently came straight out of one of the paintings in the getting ready suite.
But, more than that, it was the intentional details that really made their day feel rooted in love. There was not a dry eye in any room when Sarah gifted her loved ones handkerchiefs handmade from her late mother’s wedding gown. In fact, her mother’s presence filled the reception space, as Sarah and Brandon creatively used prints of her original hand drawn concert posters as their table settings. And, one of the most unique things I’ve seen in my 12 years of wedding photography, they didn’t just have a live band for their reception. They had Brandon’s band mates, their siblings and friends, and even Sarah’s dad, all come up in turns to perform songs specially chosen for the couple. We were all stuck between immediately hitting the dance floor, and standing mesmerized by each heartwarming performance.
As an artist and a photographer, this was the kind of wedding that dreams are made of. To get to spend the day creating, surrounded by joyful people celebrating not just the bride and groom’s love story, but their loved ones as well, all while shooting polaroids, 35mm film, 120mm film, and hundreds of photos between the two of us.
Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this such a memorable and beautiful day!
