Sugarcane Studios Ongoing Brand Photography
True-to-color natural brand photography for a local comprehensive sewing, alterations, bridal, and textile company. All photos were made either in the brand’s studio or in mine. Our aim was to create an ongoing bank of imagery for cohesive use on their social media, website, web-based advertising with third parties, and print marketing. All photos were lit to coordinate with the soft bright lighting of their natural light studio, and styled to coordinate with their vivid color palette. This project began as a monthly photoshoot to build up content over the course of one year, switching to a quarterly photoshoot to update existing portraits and studio photos while also capturing new product photos, and finally moving to an annual photoshoot for imagery refresh.
Team Photos
Every photoshoot included one group photo to ensure that the team directory was always up to date. We typically made this team photo in the large, open fitting room with their wedding styling accessories behind them to highlight both the approachable and friendly staff, and the beautiful fitting spaces.
Individual Portraits
Our very first photoshoot included individual portraits in my bright white brick studio to emphasize the approachable and creative nature of each employee. Subsequent photoshoots included additional ad hoc portraits as the company grew or as employees changed their looks. We opted to stick to simple architectural backdrops with soft window-like lighting for all headshots rather than make them all in the same exact location for much easier style to match rather than replicate.
Action Shots
This was our biggest focus during our quarterly photoshoots - capturing action shots around the studio to showcase all of the many and varied projects this studio takes on outside of just bridal alterations. I photograph each seamstress at her work station as well as throughout the studio, some including their concentrated faces and some focusing on the work and process itself. These photos were primarily used on social media as talking points for the brand’s many services, and were also used on the website for the same purpose.
Product Photos
Finally, during the second half of our initial year of photography, I photographed all of the brand’s signature customizable products such as veils, ties, robes and makeup bags. These photos were used primarily on their online product menu to highlight each product’s variety of options, and were also used on social media for the same purpose. All products were photographed using either the brand’s secondary color of soft pink, or with a simple white e-commerce background.
The Brand Photography
Over the course of the last 5 years working together, we have built up a photo catalog of well over 1,000 photos for the company to pull from as needed. All photo are hosted in one overarching permanently-stored online gallery divided into content-based subcategory folders (group photos, individual portraits, action shots, product photos) as well as delivered each photoshoot categorized by date. All photos are named according to the company’s SEO keywords to improve their online search ability, as well as labeled by date and content type for easy internal searching.
