Not often do I get to say this, but I actually knew the groom before the bride did! Q and I both came to Asheville in 2011 as student athletes, and since my freshman roommates were all on the women’s soccer team, I befriended many on the men’s side as well. I photographed both Q’s soccer matches and his graduation photos, so when I got a text from a new number while I was working in NYC saying “Hey! Are you free June 22, 2019? Tara and I would love for you to shoot our wedding.” I was understandably thrilled! Well, first I had to figure out whose number it was, then I was thrilled.

The best part about the engagement season is getting to know my couples as individual, not solely as a couple, so that I can better capture their personalities. Throughout the fall, Emmaleigh and I got to enjoy weekly yoga sessions under Tara’s tutelage, and so I got to see her in her element, the best way possible to learn how to photograph someone.

Their wedding day dawned with gray skies which soon turned to a torrential downpour. However, and I don’t know how often I’ve said this, while it was still pouring when we began their photography coverage, the clouds cleared to be replaced with blue sky just in time for their garden ceremony. And then stayed cleared throughout the celebration, allowing this beautiful couple to share their love, excitement and happiness with all of their friends and family.

It takes quite a crew to pull of such an epic event, particularly in such uncertain weather conditions, so a huge thank you to all involved!
